This is a clay figurine from Sanuki Bunsen-do, made in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture.
The expression on the clay figurine, as if it were about to burst into song at any moment, is wonderful.
Bears the Sanuki Bunsen-do mark. Does not include a stand for holding the script (tokubon).

“Sanuki Bunsen-do” in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, was a workshop run by Toyoichiro Osaki, a researcher of traditional folk toys. It is said to have restored and produced various clay toys, such as “moving dolls,” but the workshop has since closed following Mr. Osaki’s death in 2008.
