Nogomi dolls (Nokomi dolls) are sold as souvenirs of pilgrimages to Yutoku Inari Shrine, one of the three major Inari shrines in Japan.
These clay dolls were originally made by Teruji Suzuda as a local toy to brighten the postwar world.
They are still made in Nokomi, Kashima City, and are popular as folk art representing Kashima City as dolls to ward off evil and bring good luck. The round, simplified shape and colorful colors make for a lovely design.
