Menko was made of mud in ancient times, later shifting to lead, copper, and glass, and then to the present paper.
It was called menkata-men-uchi because it was made by filling clay into a face mold and baking it. After hand-pressing one by one using high quality white clay, they were dried and baked with charcoal briquettes for a long time. The colors are as close to natural ones as possible. (See instruction manual).
