In the Edo period (1603-1867), there were “Otsu-e Ten Kinds” as souvenirs and talismans for people traveling at the Osaka barrier (Otsu Oiwake) on the Fifty-three Stages of the Tokaido Highway, and each of them had its own efficacy as a talisman.
