Kosodateyama is a rare event in which “one mountain” is supposed to appear in the 61st year and “three mountains” in the 21st year.
The Sanzan Grand Festival is a special festival held every 21 years. Three large, fixed, and fixed mountains, 16.6 m’ high and 10 m’ in diameter, Nishikiyama (dressed with yellow and white cloth), Goshikiyama (dressed with blue, yellow, red, white, and purple cloth), and Kosodeyama (dressed with kosode) are built on the shrine grounds, each with flowers and other structures, a temple on the mountain, and a shrine for seven days of clear skies. The temple is a rare ritual that has been handed down for more than 1,000 years and is still practiced today. There is a legend that if one pays homage to this festival, he or she will be spared from eight difficulties and nine misfortunes.
