There are many theories, but here is one from a bookmark:
According to an old story, unnamed rikishi who visited Higo as a loincloth for a yokozuna (sumo wrestler) who had been honored with a yokozuna (grand champion) certificate, bought this ita kakuroki and learned its 48 moves day and night with the strong belief that they would become yokozuna and show their pride in the future. The board is rough-hewn and simple.
The Ita-Kakuriki is still widely known in Japan as a humorous, moving local toy that resembles the simple, rough-hewn wooden board of the Kakuriki.
