The Japanese bullfinch is given by the shrine on January 24 and 25 of the annual Kameido Tenjin Festival in Kameido, Koto-ku, Tokyo, which is famous along with the Japanese bullfinch of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine in Fukuoka Prefecture.
The shape and coloring of the bullfinch are simple and beautifully done, with the head in black, the breast in vermilion, and the wings in dark green, using the shaved white wood technique with a simple incised tail.
