It was founded by Toyonoshin Matsukawa, a samurai of the Date Clan in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, during the Tempo era (1830-1844), hence its name. It is said to have been popularized as an inside job for warriors during a famine when crops could not be harvested due to floods and other disasters. Daruma dolls are known and loved throughout the country for their gorgeous and gorgeous appearance.
