These are local toys and traditional crafts made at the Takashiba Deco Yashiki and other places in Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture.
Miharukoma” and “Miharu papier-mâché” are the birthplace of folk crafts, and “deco” refers to carved wooden dolls. They are made using wooden molds and Japanese paper.
There are various theories, but it is said that the origin is “Fushimi dolls” in Kyoto. During the Edo period, Kyoto culture was brought to the Tohoku area through Kitamae ships, and “Sagara dolls” (Yonezawa, Yamagata Prefecture) and “Tsutsumi dolls” (Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture), and since Date Masamune, lord of Sendai, had a princess from the Miharu domain as his wife, the Kyoto culture flowed from Sendai to the Miharu area It is said that Kyoto culture flowed from Sendai to the Miharu area.
One of the charms of local toys is the discovery of how old cultures spread to other parts of the country, and how they have something in common even though they are far from each other.
