The unique triangular pointed Daruma doll exists only in Niigata Prefecture in Japan. The figure of eight eyebrows and the beard of the goddess of heaven are also attractive, as well as their unmistakable and rich expressions.

A triangular pyramid-shaped koboshi is made of paper or sutra wood, rolled into a trumpet shape, weighted with clay, covered with Japanese paper, and painted on.
They were sold at fairs to pray for silkworms to wake up well in farming villages, for boats to float quickly in storms in fishing villages, and for people to recover from illnesses quickly.
Although the origin of the festival is not known, it seems to have an old history, as it is said that monk Ryokan (1758-1831, late Edo period, a monk in Niigata who loved to play with children and was famous for an anecdote about hiding alone after children returned home from hide-and-seek) wrote his praise on a picture of a toy of the time. There were more than 10 places in the Echigo area, including Mizuhara, Mitsuke, Shinbada, Imamachi, Kashiwazaki, Nagaoka, and Sanjo, where unique triangular daruma dolls were made, but most of them have been discontinued.
